Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UBC Vancouver in the Faculty of Medicine! This vibrant and diverse department is home to approximately 400 undergraduate students taught by world renowned experts and educational specialists. Our students go on to many interesting and impactful careers as scientists, health care practitioners, policy makers, scientific communicators, just to name a few.
Program Learning Objectives
- Explore the mechanisms that collectively allow biological systems to behave in the way that they do
- Evaluate data through deductive reasoning to develop an understanding of biological systems and mechanisms from a first principles perspective
- Communicate science effectively to audiences and in a variety of settings, including classrooms, laboratories, and independent research environments
- Build a community of learning and support with peers, and connect with scholars that are committed to sharing their passion for biochemistry and molecular biology
- Challenge yourself intellectually in a supportive academic environment where growth as a learner is a priority
